Profile

Krida Wacana Christian University (UKRIDA) recognizes the importance of mastering foreign language skills, particularly English skills to empower its students to compete in the ever-growing global economy. The current job market demands require us to possess not only competencies and skills in our fields of study, but also fluency in English either in the academic or professional settings. UKRIDA committed itself to assist its students in developing their English skills by establishing the UKRIDA Language Training Center (ULTC) in September 2009.

ULTC is provides high quality language education to UKRIDA’s students and the public in general. This is done by employing current worldwide best practices to maximize student achievement. In addition to English, Indonesian, German, and French are among other languages also taught at ULTC. Other services like translations and editing services are also offered by the center. ULTC takes pride in fostering cross-cultural understanding and exchanges between Indonesia and foreign countries.

PHILOSOPHY AND CULTURE

Learning a second language can be challenging for most language learners; not only do they have to tackle the obstacle in understanding the target language, but also breakdown the difficulty in using the language. In view of its motto: "You learn to conquer @ULTC", ULTC commits itself to assist its students overcome barriers and difficulties in learning a second language and connect them to the world. ULTC believes that learning and fun are not mutually exclusive. The center tries to make learning language as much fun as possible. Learning is lively and engaging for students since the instructions are given in a positive and caring environment where students find their entertainment in learning new ideas and developing new skills and competencies.

INSTRUCTION METHODS AND CLASS SIZE

Our small classes provide an intensive and immersive learning atmosphere conducive for foreign language acquisition. The courses are designed to meet the students’ needs by implementing current best practices in language teaching. Periodic events and programs pertaining to language learning are included as part of instruction such as movie watching, music, contest, field trips, etc. Expert guest speakers are invited to the class to enrich the students with either cross cultural or content knowledge. Options of class size include:

  1. Regular class (maximum 20 participants)
  2. Executive class (maximum 10 participants)
  3. Small group (maximum 5 participants)
  4. Private class (1 participant only).

Our Programs

LANGUAGE TRAINING COURSES
  1. English for Daily Communication Purposes
    • Communicative English Course
      The Communicative English Course is designed and intended for adult learners with beginner and intermediate levels of English proficiency. This course covers speaking and listening skills, and focuses on helping students build general vocabulary for speaking, learn practical everyday English communication, increase confidence in using English, and develop English fluency.
  2. English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
    • Academic Writing
      The Academic Writing Course is designed and intended for adult learners with at least intermediate level of English proficiency. This course covers the writing skills for common academic writing pieces (such as essays, reviews, and academic papers) in various academic disciplines, and focuses on helping students build academic vocabulary, knowledge about academic text structures, and writing skills for specific academic purposes.
    • Presentation Skills for Academic Purposes
      The Academic Presentation Course is designed and intended for adult learners with at least intermediate level of English proficiency. This course covers the speaking and listening skills needed for presentation in academic settings, such as in the classroom, study group, and academic exam, and focuses on helping students plan and prepare academic presentation, build academic vocabulary for formal academic presentation, increase confidence in presenting using English, and develop English fluency for academic purposes.
    • English Proficiency Test Preparation
      The English Proficiency Test Preparation Courses are designed and intended for learners with at least intermediate level of English proficiency, and focus on helping students prepare themselves for taking the TOEFL or IELTS tests. The TOEFL Preparation Course covers listening, structure and written expression, and reading skills, while the IELTS Preparation Course covers listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
  3. English for Specific Purposes (ESP)
    The English for Specific Purposes Courses are designed and intended for clients with specific learning inquiries that relate to their occupational or professional needs. These courses employ personalized learning, where the courses are specifically tailored according to the clients’ learning needs. The English for Specific Purposes Courses include, but not limited to: Communicative English for Education Professionals, Communicative English for Business Professionals, and Presentation Skills for Business English.
LANGUAGE TESTING SERVICES
  1. TOEFL ITP ® Test
    UKRIDA administers TOEFL ITP ® under the supervision of IIEF. TOEFL ITP ® Tests are usually scheduled once in a month for the public. The test covers listening skills, structure, and reading skills. The test results can be used for self-assessment, scholarship application, and participation in short-course programs.
  2. UKRIDA English Proficiency (EPT)
    UKRIDA EPT is an English proficiency test similar to TOEFL ITP ®, offered for UKRIDA students and staff to measure their English proficiency level. The test covers listening skills, structure, and reading skills. The test results can be used for self-assessment and diagnostic assessment before taking academic English courses. Starting from July 2020, ULTC organizes online EPT that can be taken by the test takers from their own home.
TRANSLATION AND PROOFREADING SERVICES

These services include:

  • Translation and proofreading services from Bahasa Indonesia to English
  • Translation and proofreading services from English to Bahasa Indonesia
SEMINARS AND WORKSHOPS

These services include seminars and workshops for external organizations, with various topics within the topics of language training, language education, English literature, art performances (dramas and plays), literacy practices, and creative industries (fiction, non-fiction and content writings).

ORGANIZATION PROFILING SERVICES

These services focus on helping clients create profiles and advertisements for their organizations in various media, such as printed books, e-books, videos, animations, brochures or pamphlets.

MANDARIN PROGRAMS

For Mandarin programs, UKRIDA cooperates with Tunghai University, Taiwan, to organizes programs as follow:

  • Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL)
    The TOCFL test is the standardized test of Taipei dialect language proficiency, intended for learners of Mandarin. The test covers listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
  • Mandarin Course
    The Mandarin course is designed and intended for learners in beginner and intermediate level of Mandarin proficiency. This course covers the listening, speaking, reading and writing skills for general or daily purposes.
